Gilbert received his MSc degree in Biotechnology from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. During his Master’s studies, he worked in Dorota Raczyńska’s lab at IMBB, where he used the CRISPR/Cas9 approach to generate a U87 glioblastoma FUS knockout (KO) cell line. In 2021, he started his PhD in the Laboratory of Gene Therapy. His project focuses on myotonic dystrophy type I (DM1), mainly on the dynamics of toxic RNA foci formation in nuclei of a DM1 cells. His research explores different microscopy techniques to observe RNA–protein complexes within foci.
