Jan obtained a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, with thesis entitled “Molecular modelling of enzymes”. After that, he became a junior team leader at Loschmidt laboratories, Czech Republic. In 2016, he won an international competition and established a joint laboratory at International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw, and Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Biology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland.

Jan is interested in developing of computational tools for analysis of function and dysfunction of proteins, their rational design, precision medicine and drug discovery. His research focuses on disclosing molecular mechanisms involved in enzymatic catalysis in a broader sense, in particular by understanding principal factors involved in the function of enzymes with buried active sites featuring strong transport components.
